Spend the day in a cinematic landscape of mountain terraces, magical waterfalls, 25 springs and more with this Rabacal levada walk.
This full day adventure while in Madeira is a wonderful opportunity to experience one of the most beautiful levada walks in the Madeira area. You will be part of a small, intimate group in the company of a local, professional, fully qualified mountain guide, who along with you will embark on a 10 km (6.25 mile) hike that takes you into the rare, ancient laurel forest.
Along the way, your friendly guide will explain the local flora and fauna in this forest, which has been designated as a natural UNESCO World Heritage site. Incredible photo opportunities are along each step, soon you will be snapping Insta-worthy shots that will have your friends and family jealous of your vacation.
Your guide will also take you along the the 25 Fontes (25 fountains) levada with its 25 small fountains or waterfalls, that cascade into a picturesque lake. While on your walk you will come face to face with the 100 mile majestic Risco waterfall, coursing from the plateau of the Paul da Serra.
This adventure trek is approximately 4 to 4.5 hours of a moderate walk and is a must do for nature lovers and those who enjoy the great outdoors and exploring new places.

We recommend wearing comfortable clothing and sensible, flat-soled walking shoes (no flip-flops, or sandals) or hiking boots. Hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen are suggested. You should bring a bottle of water, granola bar and light snack and a light weight, waterproof jacket. The weather can change quickly.
Restrictions
Guests must be able to walk a roughly 6.25 miles (10 kms) over 4.5 hours with varying terrain with inclines and steps. Due to the quick pace, this tour is not suitable for any mobility restricted traveler including guests who need to sit and rest periodically. Parents with small children should take the terrain into consideration and use a baby carrier instead of a stroller since the paths are not all accessible to baby carriages. This tour is not wheelchair accessible.

In that role, Mr. Miller was responsible for contributing to Abercrombie & Kent's international growth through the development and acquisition of tour products and travel experiences around the world with a specific focus on cruising and land based experiences. Prior to joining Abercrombie & Kent, Mr. Miller held a variety of executive positions with Royal Caribbean International and Celebrity Cruises for more than a decade. These positions included Vice President of Guest Sales & Service, Vice President of Brand Development, and Vice President of Onboard Revenue (which included shore excursions). Mr. Miller also led Celebrity Expeditions, a collection of outstanding and unique tours around the World.
Michael Bonner
Mr. Bonner has over a decade of experience working in the cruise industry in a variety of roles for both Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. and Viking River Cruises. Most recently, Mr. Bonner was the Chief Operating Officer for The Scholar Ship, a Royal Caribbean program aimed at providing college students onboard educational programs in conjunction with enriching shore excursions around the world. Mr. Bonner also helped co-manage Viking River Cruises U.S. Operations, and he ran the corporate, strategic, and deployment planning functions at Royal Caribbean.
